'Metal For A Cure' Raises More Than $5,000 For Lymphoma Research Foundation

A group of 33 Minnesota metalesque folks — comprised of metal musicians (including VISIONS OF ATLANTIS vocalist Melissa Ferlaak),fans, and friends — helped form a team for the annual Lymphomathon, a fundraiser for the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the nation's largest lymphoma-focused voluntary health organization devoted exclusively to funding lymphoma research and providing patients and health care professionals with critical information on the disease. The team called Root for Earl: Metal for a Cure raised well over $5,000.

What originally started as a benefit to help Minnesota metal icon (musician, radio show host and metal label owner) Earl Root quickly has turned into a movement to raise awareness of this form of cancer and support organizations who help the fight against lymphoma related cancers in the name of metal.

Earl Root has been a staple of the rock and metal community in Minnesota for over twenty years. He is most known as the once owner of Root Cellar Records, which closed in 2005 as well as the DJ of KFAI's "Root of All Evil" metal music show on Saturday nights. He also owns a metal record label Root of All Evil and is the guitarist for AESMA DAEVA and ON THE ROCKS in addition to the many musical endeavors he has been a part of for many years.

Seven years ago, Earl was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma regenerative, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Earl has been in and out of chemotherapy and radiation treatments over the years, some less or more intrusive than others.
